B-Mechelen, Theatrium, 16.04.2001
from Ward
Yesterday evening we went for the 6th or 7th time to see GE. Ofcourse we were expecting a nice concert but what we got...
Amazing how innovating this new show is - more than ever experiment is allowed & even if we were afraid of hearing so many new songs (for GE-songs I mostly prefer to know the songs/texts) - they were really brilliant - if these songs ever get recorded, it must become their best album!
Of course there were also some old songs, mainly in the bis-section. "Die Form", "Die Brut", "Iphigenie" & "Sitz der Gnade" were played in a slightly new arrangement.
I'm really glad Oswald & Mindy keep coming every tour at least once to Belgium & I hope GE will keep their promise to return to Belgium next year with a new show !

I went to see GE in Mechelen too. Amazingly, after all these years, GE still
manages to bring new songs that sound brilliant from the very first note on.
I have to admit that some of the stuff played last night was a bit uhm...
bizarre, and the short film Der Tag really made me go Huh?, but anyway I
really enjoyed the show - again. Thanks Oswald & Mindy (and the rest of
course)!
P.S. I was thinking, what a difference there was between the Oswald I saw
for the first time (In Bruges, in '93 I think) and Oswald yesterday, joking
around, cracking some bullshit with the crowd...
That put a smile on my face.

I can't stay behind when so many people comment on the Mechelen concert,
but I too must apologize for not being able to express myself in the
beautiful German language.
It was a wonderful concert! Danke, Oswald and Mindy and the rest for all the
magic. It is always strange to find that such dark music can be so
uplifting. I found the movies a bit difficult to follow, especially after we
had been standing for so long waiting for the concert to begin, and
especially Der Weg was a bit too long. But that's just my opinion, and other
people seemed to enjoy them very much.
The new songs I remembered from the Eurorock festival had become even
better, the little story Oswald told about Lucifer and God was fantastic,
without being blasphemic or anything (as many other bands would make it).
Over all, it is difficult to judge a concert with music you don't know,
especially if the texts are so important. But that is what the Erben do of
course: tell stories and make theatre. Wonderful!
The encores (4 times!) were fantastic, apart from Das Ende they played my
top favourite songs: Die Brut, Marionetten, Sitz der Gnade and Iphigenie. I
keep repeating: Wonderful!
I hope that there will be a new concert in Belgium soon, I can't stand the
idea of having to wait a year or more for the next one. I especially hope to
see you on Eurorock!
PS: Oswald, have you ever considered covering a song from B. Brecht and K.
Weill's Dreigroschenopfer? That would be... wonderful !
